The Morning After The Slashdot Party"
Background Info:
Blogs(Web Logs) - are online diaries/news forums that feature links to news items and stories from across the Internet's World Wide Web.
Blogger - Most blogs are headed by an individual called a blogger and many of these are those who want to bring their own views online.
Slashdot (frequently abbreviated online as /.) is a popular website, primarily consisting of short summaries of stories on other websites with links to the stories, and provisions for readers to comment on the story.
Slashdot.org has had a large following of users that tend to be more technical. The term
Slashdotting usually means when a link is posted on the Slashdot.org site, the site that is linked to gets an extrodinary amount of traffic. At times bringing down the server or making the site very slow.
Slashdot - ProBlogger
Darren Rowe(ProBlogger), has had a growing following of his own across multiple sites that he blogs on. What is interesting to see is the
"Slashdot Effect" in his stats. (by the way they were open to the public by clicking on a link). It is easy to tell that the post was done on Saturday with a tremendous spike in traffic on Sunday and approaching more normal traffic late Sunday or Monday. I have blurred out the exact numbers out of respect for the owner of the site.(No he did not ask me to)
If you are not a blogger yet but have interest in writing your thoughts out on the web there are some free blogging sites such as
Blogger.com, or if you want a bit more control and have it hosted by your ISP,
WordPress or
Moveable Type that are good blog platforms but may need to be installed on the host.
