Home Roof inspection, don't take it for granted
Fall is settling in and winter won't be far behind in Walla Walla. It's time to take advantage of still moderate temperatures to make certain that your home is ready for the cooler weather that mother nature is preparing. As you take care of fall chores such as raking leaves and clearing the water out of your sprinkler system don't forget to check over the area that protects your family and all your belongings - your roof!
It's just easy to do, take your roof for granted. After all, how many times do you really look at it? Still, it's your roof that wages a defensive war against the elements for you. It's never a good thing if your roof fails but it is far worse in the middle of winter when any attempts you make to repair the problem are more difficult due to the cold and the possibility of snow to contend with. Take a close look at your roof and take careful note of the following:
Are your roof shingles beginning to curl or split?
Do you have shingles that are breaking, missing, or loose?
Are your gutters in good condition or are they filled with leaves, etc... so that water will back up during rain or snow?
Does your roof have areas where the shingles seem dark meaning they are losing their granules which help keep water from the lower layers of the shingle?
If you see any of these warning signs it is time to contact a licensed and insured roofing contractor to find out if your roof will withstand another winter. The wrong time to learn that your roof is nearing the end of it's life is when it has already failed leaving damage to your home.
