COEUR d'ALENE Press
Historic Restaurant Afloat
A couple of the doors are a little tight, but the old floating restaurant at Blackwell Island is still afloat -- but just barely. Low water levels on Lake Coeur d'Alene have some parts of The Cedars lightly resting on the lakebed as the waters of the lake slowly begin to rise to summer levels.
Of course, with a couple dozen employees feverishly dashing about the kitchen and dining room, new equipment installed and pantries filled for Friday night's opening, there was plenty of ballast to keep the 40-year-old landmark steady as she goes.
"One thing that's kind of unique is it's one of the two longest-running restaurants in Kootenai County," general manager Dan Duer said.
