New Procedures Available to Combat Sun Damaged Skin
Staggering heat waves this summer in the U.S. and Southwest are a good reminder that the human body was not meant to withstand the sun's ravages. Beyond causing unbearably high temperatures, the sun's rays routinely wreak havoc on the skin. Sun damage is a reality for just about everyone. It is caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays.
UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and cause skin aging, wrinkling and contribute to skin cancer, such as melanoma.
UVB rays cause sunburns, cataract and immune system damage, while also contributing to skin cancer.
Sun damage, also known as photo damage, frequently shows up in the form of wrinkles, blotches, pigmented spots and premature aging. "We see a large number of clients who are trying to undo the years of sun-worshipping they did when they were younger," states Dr. Yvonne E. Stratton of Walla Walla Skin Care. "When they were young they had no idea they were going to have to pay for those tans when they got older".
Some common ways to repair sun damaged skin include microdermabrasion, chemical peel and anti-aging skin care products. Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, safe skin renewal process that helps fade fine lines, scarring, redness, uneven skin tone and age spots. Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. And the myriad of anti-aging skin care products on the market is overwhelming. "We offer SkinCeuticals skin care products at Walla Walla Skin Care because of the medical testing behind their products. They use pure, pharmaceutical grade ingredients with proven scientific results", explains Stratton.
Although it takes months of use, high quality skin care products can significantly improve the skin's appearance. In particular, Vitamin C has been shown to protect the skin from premature signs of aging caused by environmental damage. "Most Vitamin C skin products do not penetrate the skin barrier. SkinCeuticals Vitamin C products have been proven to cross the skin barrier and repair as well as prevent damage", says Stratton
Walla Walla Skin Care, the area's only medical spa, offers permanent laser hair reduction, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, deep-pore cleansing facials, ClearLightâ„¢ acne treatments and SkinCeuticals brand skincare products.
