Rising Star 4-H Club Collected Coins for Donation to Walla Walla Humane Society.
Our members wanted to find a way to help the animals at the Humane Society. All of our members were excited about this project because animals are a very important part of all of our lives. We would like to help the sick and mistreated animals get better and help all of the animals find homes.
Our club decided that we could do a coin collection and donate all proceeds to the Shelter. Rising Star members asked family and friends for any spare change that they would be willing to donate. Most of the coins that we collected were pennies and we were still able to raise $69.74! We were so happy to find out how successful our fundraiser was.
Due to scheduling conflicts, we were unable to drop off the check to the Humane Society until March 29, 2005. When we arrived, we met with Kathy Richards. She expressed how important it is to the shelter to receive donations and how much she appreciated what we are doing. Kathy said "It is so wonderful to have these kids involved! This money will help feed, water and find homes for these animals." The shelter is moving towards a goal to become a "kill-free" facility and we are excited to be a part of that. After we spoke with Kathy, we were taken on a tour of the Shelter. All of our members had fun playing with the animals.
Our members decided to continue our efforts throughout the year. We purchased collection cups for each of us to keep our change in. Each time we do a collection, we will set a goal to exceed the last one.
